Spider-Man 3 Preview at GameSpot
GameSpot recently got a chance to check out Spider-Man 3, the upcoming movie game by Activision headed to every conceivable platform. The versions of the game the guys down at GS got to check out were the 360 and PS3 versions. I must say, judging by their impressions it looks like Treyarch (which worked on nearly every other decent Spider-Man game in existence) is all set to make this by far the best title in the series.
Here's a gist of the important stuff:
-Different gameplay mechanics depending on whether Peter's wearing the symbiote costume or the regular red-and-blues.
-Spider-sense mechanics completely overhauled.
-Game supports 720p on the PS3 and 360, and 480p on the Wii. SIXAXIS functionality, achievement points and motion-sensing controls implemented in the respective versions.
-Game sticks to the basic plot of the movie but has a ton of additional content, including 10 different plot threads. Scorpion confirmed as one of the added villains.
-Includes interactive cinematics a la God of War.
-Very open-ended gameplay.
God damn, I'm so excited for this game. Not to mention, it gives you another reason to buy a PS3.
Naturally, GameSpot's screenshots of the game look crappy, but judging by the videos, Spider-Man 3 looks like it's going to be one of the best-looking games created to date (well, on the PS3/360 anyway). Keep in mind that Activision's probably got Sony breathing down their necks to make this a killer title, seeing as how Sony slapped the Spider-Man movie logo on to the PS3.
People are sure to make the connection, and make no mistake; while this game is being developed for every single platform out there, it was probably built ground-up for the PS3 right from the very beginning and that is definitely the platform I'd choose to play it on. I just hope Treyarch remembered to include the original symbiote suit from the comics as an unlockable ... I'm not too keen on the black suit developed for the movie.
