Funimation, Geneon offering anime on Xbox Live

More good Live news for you Video Marketplace lovers. Funimation and Geneon both announced today that they will be offering downloadable anime on Xbox Live.

Funimation public relations head Jeff Dronen revealed that the initial offerings from the company will include Basilisk, Samurai 7, Trinity Blood and Gunslinger Girl. These series will be made available from June 12th onwards.

Geneon, on the other hand, is offering high-definition anime. Akira, GUNxSWORD, Last Exile, Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo, and Lupin III. These series will also be available from June 12th onwards and will also be offered on Bittorrent via Vuze.

It shouldn't be too long until VIZ starts offering its solicitations via Xbox Live now either. Currently, they provide downloadable episodes of Death Note via Direct2Drive on IGN. I still don't see the point of anime on Live Video Marketplace. I'd rather download free fansubs from the Internet or buy the actual DVDs. HD episodes without all the extras and artwork and cool cases just don't sound very desirable. Maybe it's just me.
