Manga on the Wii Shop Channel a future possibility?
The American Wii site has an interview of sorts with the Wii Shop Channel developers, who give us a little insight into how exactly the channel came into being and the challenges it brought with it. One of the developers, Imamoto from the Research and Development Department, who managed the server design for the channel had something I found extremely interesting to offer in the way of the Shop Channel's future growth:
Lately, it's becoming popular to read manga with cellphones, but it may be fun if you're able to download manga using Wii, and able to read it on your TV.
Woah ... woah! Everybody calm the fuck down. You over there, with the Naruto poster ... cease and desist with the Tom Cruise sofa-stomping imitation! This is in no way a confirmation and we shouldn't take it to mean anything more than...
OK, you know what? Fuck it. Manga on the Wii! Oh God, say it is so! That would be awesome! Yes, yes ... once again, there are no confirmations and no one's mentioned anything of the sort yet, but hey; digital distribution is on the rise as far as comics and manga are concerned, and the Wii would be a perfect -- perfect -- channel of distribution.
Make it happen! Someone ... anyone!

Ehh, I don't know. I've always had an issue with reading books or manga on a screen. I really like to have the actual book in-hand. D:

ANYWAY.
But yes, as far as digital distribution is concerned, I do think this will do wonders for the Wii's popularity, which is already skyrocketing on a daily basis. I can kind of see what Nintendo means now when they keep talking about how they want to make the system a part of daily life.
Whether or not they'll be able to pull it off is another matter, though.
