Namco Bandai developing Tekken 6 with Cell Processor

Finally, someone's putting the Cell processor to good use. Not surprising they're the first, seeing as how Namco probably has the closest ties to Sony at this point in time. Here's the news from Mainichi:
Fighting game "Tekken 6" will go on sale later this year as the first arcade game using Sony's PlayStation 3 technology, game developer Namco Bandai Games Inc. announced Monday.

"Tekken 6" will be available for amusement parks and other game arcade facilities worldwide, but the company has not decided on the exact launch date for that game or others that will follow, using Sony's latest game technology, Namco Bandai spokeswoman Miki Baba said.

Any guesses on how good this game will look? Japan's so lucky that they even have arcade games any more. I'd kill for my own Virtua Fighter or Marvel vs Capcom cabinet!

Namco and sony have teamed up to form a company called Cellius..This transition is a part of their ploy to capture the Japanese audience...the Wars have divided regions on content forcing Third party developers to Multiplatform to recover their costs of production...

I know, I linked back to it in the post. I'm pretty curious to see what exactly Cellius brings to the table.

Also, their "ploy"? Being a Japanese company, you'd think it would be natural for them to want a Japanese fanbase, wouldn't you? ;)

Going multiplatform is cool and all, and well, logically it's the right thing to do. However, I do think there is and always should be room for certain exclusive titles, regardless of whether or not they're first or third-party. I mean, that's what makes your purchase different from another guy's purchase.

No point in having 3 different consoles if they're all going to have the same games.

Didn't the Dreamcast and also the arcade priced NeoGeo also lend their hardware to arcade versions of home titles?

I wonder who benifits out of this Cellius partnership more. Sony for the free development or Namco for the free hardware?

On the point of third parties I actually like the idea that they do as much on the two/three consoles and PC as they can. What should matter is first party support. If anyone knows of or is interested in doing I'd love to see a well researched piece on developers owned by each of the three as this could be the only exclusive content they'll be looking at in the future.

360 also helps promote this multiple platform attitude with access to the PC (and Vista) market with hardly any development investment. Again Sony needs to address that issue with their Devs or will be looking worse off when multi platform titles are being designed.
