Mario and Sonic teaming up this Christmas

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games is the result of a collaboration between Nintendo and Sega and is being developed by Sega Japan. The game is set to release this Christmas. Here's the news from GamesIndustry.biz:

Developed by Sega Japan, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games has been licensed through a partnership with International Sports Multimedia, the interactive entertainment software licensee of the International Olympic Committee.

"We are thrilled to partner with Nintendo and ISM on the ground breaking title," commented Hisao Oguchi, president of Sega.

"For the first time, two of the world's greatest games' characters come together to compete in the world's greatest sporting event and we couldn't be more excited."

Wow, the fanboys are going to be drooling all over this one. I'll bet Sega jumped at the opportunity to give Sonic another nice little boost in the right direction after Secret Rings turned out so well. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games is going to be on the Wii as well as the DS. I stand by what I said in an earlier post: Christmas '07 will totally belong to Nintendo.
