Top Cow and IGN to offer digital comic downloads

More NYCC news from over at Newsarama. It looks like Marvel isn't the only publisher looking to online distribution for further growth. Top Cow recently announced their plans to team up with IGN (woah!) to offer downloadable comics,

Top Cow VP Filip Sablik revealed that Top Cow is partnering with videogame/entertainment online giant IGN.com to offer online versions of their comic books for full cover price ($2.99). According to Sablik, the issues will be offered online at the same time that they are offered in stores and be in PDF format. No more specifics details were offered. The comics will be "download to own" versions, and fans will be able to go to drive2drive.com and download high res secure PDFs which they will own and which will be high enough quality to print out if they so choose.

Ewww, PDF?! Gah. What's wrong with a simple .zip/rar or .cbr/cbz file with .JPEGs inside? Why God, why?! And I suppose the full cover price is unavoidable until comics shift completely from print to digital distribution...
