Why Do Wii Games Look Like Crap?

Really now ... almost a year into the system's lifespan, and a port of Resident Evil 4 is the best-looking game on it? Clearly the industry is doing something wrong. But what exactly? And how can we fix it?

Both real nice pieces. Regarding the mega texture tech needing a hard drive. I don't think it will and we'll soon get confirmation of that when the 360 version of Quake Wars is released. Now sure, that's based on a single mega texture for the environment and not ALL textures as id tech 5 deals with. Still, it should show what's possible and let's not forget Doom 3 did hit the original Xbox.

In all honesty less than a year is not an awful lot of time for developers to create jaw-dropping graphics. (relatively speaking)

Zack & Wiki looks good, so does battalion wars 2 and victorious boxers. These are all games that are not going for a realistic look, personally thats fine with me.

Nights however looks like crap from what I've seen so far. There still some devs that think they can make a quick buck by cutting corners of graphics. I cant really blame them for trying.

Ishaan needs to write a piece like the "Mature Gaming" one but covering "Good Graphics is not just Realistic Graphics". :)

The Wii is fully capable of producing crisp entertaining graphics. I think a proper 3D engine would help the less dedicated publishers/developers in getting better assets onto the screen.

Hey, that's a actually a great idea for an article. Thanks you guys! And yea, Remo; I'm with you on Nights looking pretty unpolished at this point.

Still, Sonic & the Secret Rings looked nice enough, so let's hope SEGA will bring Nights up to a similar level of visual polish.
